Just by applying you've upped the odds considerably! Government financial aid can take several forms. Government education grants are an excellent form of financial aid because unlike loans, they don't need to be paid back. There are outright cash grants for college expenses that can be used for room and board, tuition, books, and other expenses. Other expenses run the gamut of variable situations. There are work-study programs where a student's tuition can be deferred if the student works in a given field while going to school.
